About Us

Following a proposal by Nancy Slater the Langcliffe Millennium Committee was set up in 1999 to organize millennium events, including the publication of a booklet with contributions from many villagers on aspects of life in the village, local buildings, and local countryside. This work resulted in publication of 'Langcliffe - Glimpses of a Dales village' by Hudson History of Settle, ISBN 0-9533643-5-6 in May 2000. (Procter House, Kirkgate, Settle, BD24 9DZ).

The Millennium Committee comprised

   Helen Jarvis    Chair      Kate Croll        Secretary   ;     Helene Wiggin    Treasurer  ;

   Alison Fawcett     Joyce Leigh     Jean Lavelle     Jean Jelley    Chris Ellis

The Millennium Committee continued to collect much more information than published in this first booklet so proceeded to print a second booklet in 2002 with funds remaining from the Millennium Fund grant - 'More glimpses of Langcliffe' published also by Hudson History of Settle, ISBN 1-903783-13-5.

The Millennium Committee wound up its activities in 2002 and found a new existence as the Langcliffe History Group since there appeared to be much material extant worth preserving - now partly in the form of a web site.
